Unveiling the Conference Theme
This year’s LTMUN Conference theme is dubbed:
‘Fostering Development: Complexities of Intervening in a Globalized World’.
The concept of progressive national development is highly desired by all nations; however, its sustenance requires a great deal of collective effort and commitment, especially from other member states of the United Nations.
In recent years, the international society has evolved into a globalized era. This points to the interrelatedness, interdependency and networked affairs of one country with others. In this globalized era, decisions and actions of one country are likely to cause a ripple effect across the world due to how connected the world has become.
Most at times, development plans are implemented and achieved through global interventions as seen during the Ebola Crisis, Haiti Earthquake of 2011 and ongoing Yemen and Syrian Conflicts. But in all these, some controversies concerning global interventions resonate in our minds. Does another country possess the right to intervene to quell the turmoil of another country to foster development without the request from the host nation? To what extent can these intervening entities operate? How do we as a globalized society check the true intentions of an intervention? How can we curb the potential repercussions of an intervention from exceeding national borders? These are questions and debate issues within the scope global politics of which this year’s theme seeks to stimulate.
