The Botaepa Social Venture Project

The Botaepa Social Venture Project is an annual flagship program organized by Lifelink Ghana as an integral part of the broad Lifelink Tertiary Model United Nations (LTMUN) Conference which seeks to inculcate into the youthful generation the passion to bring out lasting and pragmatic solutions to present societal issues. The word Botaepa means “good purpose” according to the local language of the Fantis of Ghana; Fante Twi.  The name represents the goodwill of young minds to create a   positive and lasting impact in society.

The Botaepa Project was pioneered by LTMUN alumni. Since its inception in 2014, it has directly influenced and contributed to the creation new ventures. The project has also facilitated the transformation of existing ideas and social ventures into more robust, scalable and sustainable ones.

In the bid to contribute its quota towards the achievement of the set Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, the Botaepa Project Challenge engages the youth in being active agents of societal development. Furthermore, the Botaepa Project creates a niche that enhances networking and partnerships between younger social entrepreneurs and successful entrepreneurs in Ghana and across the world. This project provides mentorship by successful and experienced entrepreneurs to relatively younger ones who are making a difference in our world.

Last year, we discovered a remarkable social venture of a vibrant and determined young lady, Ms. Rejoice Dufe, who’s vision was to run a non-profit venture that would breed increased learning and teaching of foreign languages such as; English and French in deprived communities, where quality of education was very low.

It is evident that; the objective of this project is to nurture socially responsible and dedicated leaders and world changers within applicants and avail them a platform to pitch lasting solutions to issues affecting all aspects of our society in areas which include; education, health, science and technology, child development, business and the environment.

This year we are looking for persons passionate about creating positive change in society. The Botaepa Project thrives on inventive and practical thinking. Interested participants must be willing to find creative and pragmatic solutions to the problems in society. Participants must, if given the grant, be willing to commit their time to see their projects come to fruition.

We are committed to making this year’s experience a memorable one. In the midst of the myriad problems facing our country and the world today, we believe this year’s challenge will raise the next generation of social entrepreneurs to find inventive solutions to the problems facing Ghana and the world as a whole. This year’s winner gets a fully sponsored trip to pitch his or her project at the annual Resolution Project Challenge held during the Harvard National Model UN Conference in Boston,USA. We can’t wait to see some of your amazing projects!

Admissibility and Criteria

1. You have to be registered as a delegate for LTMUN17.
2. Your social venture must have not more than 3 founders.
3. It should be a new project or a modified version of an already existing project
4. It must have achievable goals and targets.
5. The venture is advised to have a mentor or ally. This can be a person well vexed in this area who gives good counsel.
6. The venture must have performance benchmarks to determine the level of progress.
7. It ought to be sustainable.
8. It must not be funded by some other organisation.
9. It must be practical and feasible within the area of implementation.
10. Founders must draw a prospective budget with respect to their project.
11. The venture must have a significant social impact.
12. It should be innovative and ingenuous.
13. It must address pressing needs of society.
