KEY MESSAGES by Anne-Claire Dufay, UNICEF Resident Coordinator at the 2019 LTMUN Conference
The future of our societies requires huge investments in basic infrastructure, food security, climate change mitigation and adaptation, health and education. While public financing remains critical, private sources of investment will be essential to meet the scale of investment required.
The SDGs represents the most ambitious vision ever, with concrete targets, to end hunger, boost access to health, education and jobs, while protecting our planet from environmental degradation.
Public awareness of the SDGs is very low. The low level of awareness makes the public’s role in driving accountability for the implementation weak. We need major public awareness campaigns to whip up public ownership and to drive accountability.
Young people can play a role by
Harnessing the power of social media and digital technologies to share information on the SDGs and why they matter.
Localising the SDGs at every event to highlight local impacts and celebrate change makers and innovations.
Using the goals as opportunities to improve and enhance the achievements of the SDGs
Building movements to mobilise young people around the SDGs to own the SDGs and become agents of change
