MARCUS GARVEY AMANATEY ASHINGMOR – MY GOAL AS A GHANA UNITED NATIONS YOUTH OBSERVER
Tenacity makes a man strive through the turbulence life brings and become who or what he is destined to be; this is a quote I coined in high school after my admission and it has been the strength of my fortitude throughout life and influenced my perspective of seeing the world and how it works and how the youth can collectively help it move from the point where it is to a higher level.
Rising from a humble background to the zenith of Ghana United Nations Youth Observer, I hold this honor in high esteem with the people in my community and the entire youth population of this blessed country, and as the Youth Observer I have to put from my end to elevate and improve the indulgence of participation of the Ghanaian youth in activities of international relevance. As such, having attained this position, I endeavor to undertake great projects
Upon my arrival in the United Nations, I will build a pool of transnational networks that will foster simultaneous projects that will bring a great change in the lives of humans and in the world. As such we will develop an action plan that we can individually practice and implement in our respective countries and check on the progress we attained and help each other if need be in our countries.
After my return, I intend to strengthen my campaign in an organization of which I am a member; OdodowGH. Ododow GH is a research and advocacy based organization with a primary focus in the areas of socio-cultural negatives and violence. We have launched two successful campaigns against violent Extremism and mob violence. Currently, we are running a campaign against sex abuse in schools. We intend to spread our tentacles to cover a wide coverage so the ordinary Ghanaian can be assisted.
Also as a former regional executive of the Greater Accra Students’ Representative Council, I will also embark on programs with the council to educate the youth on the numerous opportunities we have as students using my journey as a student as the example. I will use the Central Committee, General Committee and the Congress of this council to educate the youth of the numerous opportunities and how young people can participate to achieve the SDGs. The council is responsible for all the Senior High Schools in the nation’s capital and is a mother council to other regions of the country.
Further, I shall leverage on the unique exposure offered me to mobilize my fellow young persons into youth activism towards the attainment of the SDGs through inclusiveness and knowledge sharing. National issues that concern the youth will have my contribution as the youth observer from the youth perspective.
